According to Walt Mossberg, Apple is going to add Flash support to the iPhone "within the next couple of months". This revelation came in response to a question on a recent column:

Q: If the iPhone’s Web browser is so good, why can’t it play video on Web sites I visit?

At launch, the iPhone version of the Safari browser is missing some plug-ins needed for playing common types of Web videos. The most important of these is the plug-in for Adobe’s Flash technology. Apple says it plans to add that plug-in through an early software update, which I am guessing will occur within the next couple of months. (Read the whole article here.)

This is definitely great news and an important step towards the iPhone's browser truly supporting the full Internet :)

• That is cool, do the other mobile versions of flash support video? The version on my M600 won't play youtube videos.

• Sounds neat. So neat that i am thinking "Maybe i want an iPhone?". Hehe. BTW Aral, have you seen the recently announced OpenMoko phone? IMO it would be very interesting if someone ported across, say, Gnash and effectively made a really neat Open Source Flash-Based mobile platform.

• Is this going to be Flash Lite or Flash 9? If it's Flash 9 then does that mean we can make some flex and paper vision apps. Also what would be the chance of AIR working on the iPhone?

• No Flash support is one of the main factors that kept me from getting an iPhone.

• I got mine last night, it stll dosnt have flash on it, and its diapointment, but overall i give this product an 11 o the scale o f 1 to 10.
